Glammed it up on the 4th

So my cousin got married on the 3rd of July and I took the opportunity to make a dress out of the many yards of fabric I have.  There's no way it could end up any worse than my last one, haha (crying inside).  I randomly walked down 125th street in Harlem and picked out a tailor.  I brought my own fabric and haggled with the tailor and we settled on a price.

First picture is the dress I used for inspiration (the pic on the right).  I really liked the dress but wasn't sure how it would turn out with the fabric I chose.  When I got to the tailor I decided I wanted to go strapless and bubble the bottom a bit.  You can do that when you're getting it tailor made.

He did an amazing job.  The dress turned out beautiful and got nothing but compliments.  I was so happy with it that I told everyone about him and I'll definitely be back.  Here's the finished product.  What do you think?

Nicole Parker Rocking the Ankara

I saw a clip of Nicole Parker rocking this cute little dress by Nigerian designer Titi Ademola of Kiki clothing. In the video she goofed a bit and said it was by a Ghanaian designer, but it's all good. She looks awesome and is helping to put African fashion on the map. I would link to Kiki clothing site, but all of the pics are broken links. At least you can enjoy Nicole.

Shoes shoes shoes!

The first time I saw these fabulous shoes I immediately fell in love! I was at a fashion show at my school hosted by the Organization of African students. The girl who had them took a simple approach to sporting these shoes by wearing jeans and a basic blazer. I totally agreed with the way she approached her outfit because the simplicity of her outfit allowed the shoes to exude their full beauty. After that day in March, I have now seen these shoes in a couple of places online but I have yet to see them on another female. Are females unaware of these super cute shoes at Aldo? What do you think?
